Finding toads and frogs in north Florida!
Thank you for watching! I wanted to make a quick video to share some of the frogs and toads I found while walking around a lake at night. This video isn’t like most the videos I make, but I thought maybe it could be nice to post something a little different. I’m in Michigan right now with family, and I will have many more videos to upload including some from my time here!

I'm surprised to learn that the "lagarto ocelado" that lives around me can be a pet. They are surprisingly not shy in the wild. You can be 1m away from them and sonetimes they hide slowly without running.

It isn’t the wings that make the noise male have muscles under their abdomen that vibrate and make noise

whenever you pick up a cicada and they stand there, they dont know your a human and they think your a tree they spend most of their time under the ground benefiting from the trees sap.

Mate… I encountered one of these stopping me from entering my laundry room, and had to run back to get a spray bottle. You just poked and prodded at it to showcase all of its defences. You are built different 🫡. Mad respect

This is such a great video - so positive and educational! I especially liked how you highlighted respect for their autonomy! The more intelligent the reptile, the more important it is to do things on their terms. My emerald tree skink is my smartest and most interactive pet, and all handling is on his terms. He sees it as a treat to get out of his enclosure, and that makes me so much happier than if I just grabbed him.

In that situation I’d spend time nearby the enclosure, just to get her used to my presence. Then if I noticed after some days she seemed more comfortable with me around, I’d try getting closer. Hopefully after trying that I could get close enough to try tweezer feeding her some insects. Unfortunately it can take a lot of time and patience, but it can pay off! Hopefully what I said is useful to you, good luck! Also, moving slowly is always helpful. Sometimes with my more skittish animals I have to move so incredibly slow to prevent them from running/jumping away. You may already be aware of that but I wanted to say it just in case

    • @KkCreatures

@@rogueplanet13 no problem! It really depends on the lizards but the females’ bite is definitely less bad than the males’. My female lacerta has never drawn blood when she’s accidentally nipped me during feeding, but if she bit me intentionally I’m sure she could draw blood

The skin of toads is much less sensitive than frogs and slimier amphibians because they live on land, this makes them much better for handling than actual frogs but you still may want to have your hands clean

What do you feed them? And when they become frogs they move to trees so Do you have a way for them To climb out of the water? Have a bunch of tadpoles in a bucket outside my house that filled with rainwater and I’m not bringing them in but just curious about them so I decided to try to find some info. I know outside they will eat bugs etc (the tadpoles)….but just wondering what they eat in captivity! I commend you for saving them
